Samui approximately counts 35.000 Thai, mainly
Buddhists with a minority of Moslems, especially
concentrated in the village of Hua Thanon
and near Nathon. There is also a small population
of Chinese.
The life in Samui is relaxing, Thai are passive
and very patient people. The visitors directly
feel at ease. The smile is an universal language
which assists communication whatever the language
spoken, even if sometimes it is not easy to
understand each other. On the other hand,
in the hotels, there is always staff which
will be able to inform you in English and
sometimes even with some words of French!
