|
| The Kingdom's natural
heritage is vast. Although known above all
for its paradise beaches, Thailand also offers
other impressive scenery worthy of a postcard.
The Erawan waterfalls in Kanchanaburi province
are just one of those gems. |

>> You don't fall
in love with this place at first sight, it
come gradually and merits it because the path
to enjoy the beauty of this place is a long
one - long but lovely. An hour by road from
the north-west of Kanchanaburi, the Erawan
waterfalls are hidden in a thick layer of
tropical vegetation which covers the hills
of this part of Si Nakharin national park.
Once past the ranger's post, nature surrenders
its charm in its entirety. The footpaths that
lead visitors have in no way spoiled the splendour
of the forest and if devotees endeavour to
preserve this quality, the environment gives
as much back in return. After a little 15
minute walk, at a bend by a tree (probably
over a 100 years old) an enclave in the dense
greenery lets you see the first falls of water
from a long and high succession of pools.
The sight is intoxicating and the desire to
jump in irresistible. Bathing, at first ceremonial
ritual, quickly turns into a celebration of
nature and what it is giving us. The more
courageous attempt to follow the waterfall
to its source - great idea ! It's a long and
somewhat difficult adventure, but that doesn't
compare to the joy it will bring.
Keen botanists will easily find all kinds
of species of trees, plants and vegetation
which make up this exceptional place, where
even wild animals tread (birds, monkeys and
even tigers). (/LA) |
