| The Thais like to have
a drink and don't need a special occasion
to do so. With friends or family the subjects
of Siam happily raise their glasses to everyone's
health with a variety of alcoholic beverages.

hectic and a little inebriated... even the
dogs have had their fill and need a rest.

>> Thai men enjoy
life and are party animals at heart. They
like a good time and a drink on special occasions
- the youngsters too. With work colleagues,
amongst friends or with family, any event
is a good excuse to raise a glass and toast
the occasion with a strong (or not so strong)
drink.
If God smokes Havanas, Thais drink whisky.
They're fans of the local brands like Mekong
and Sang Som drunk with soda or water and
ice, but some also prefer other famous brands
from America, Ireland and Scotland (rather
costly in Thailand). Local habits dictate
that this drink is consumed as an aperitif,
during an evening in the pub or surprisingly
enough as an accompaniment to a meal. Or,
sipped throughout the course of a long hot
afternoon, lying on the green grass in a quiet
park. Thais don't just drink whisky, but a
large quantity of beer too. The country produces
some very good beer like Singha, Chang and
Leo. And one of the latest trends is the energy
drink like Red Bull (forbidden in Europe because
it contains amphetamines). These little 10cl
bottles are sold everywhere and are drunk
neat or mixed with a soda (like Sprite) to
give you a boost. (/LA) |
