The search for peace and quiet for a siesta in the heart of Bangkok can lead to the cloisters of a Buddhist temple. Caught in the act, this picture of one self-indulging individual was captured by our own cameras in the heart of Wat Suthat.

A sleepyhead at the feet of Buddha in the cloisters of Wat Suthat, just by a sign in Thai forbidding it.
 .Nap at the Buddha's feet
>> For a siesta in the South of France we'd seek the shade of the olive trees, in Africa this would be for a parley after trivial discussions. Those adept at this exercise in Bangkok choose the alley-way of the cloisters in the Buddhist temples; perhaps for the religious aspect of the place or for the coolness contained by the marble floors, in any case, definitely for the tranquillity.

It's in the middle of the week, the middle of the afternoon and in the middle of a cloister of Wat Suthat that this person has dozed off. In search of spirituality, peace and quiet and some rest, this man has installed himself on two facing chairs to have a nap. The noise of the traffic doesn't reach here, there's no wind, no sun - the heat is not stifling and no one to disturb the slumber of this soul at rest. No one also to remind him that he's not allowed to sleep here.

And what better than to defy the forbidden, in complete peace of mind and to take a siesta with impunity in the holiest of places in the capital under the half closed eyes of the hundred or so impassive Buddhas knowingly watching over you. Just next to a sign strictly prohibiting it as well! (/LA)
