Samphran Elephant Ground & Zoo, in
about thirty kilometres on the West of Bangkok,
contains some beautiful specimens of the
fauna Thai as tigers, crocodiles and elephants
among whom some are particularly talented
for the show.
The entrance seems a little particular,
even poignant, with elephants put in enclosure
and attached to a leg, begging bananas to
the visitors. But at first sight, it doesn’t
seem to shock anybody and this gloomy vision
of the park is forgotten quite quickly for
the benefit of the rest of the visit and
of the 2 shows (elephant and crocodile)
which follow. The Crocodile Wrestling
Show is a confrontation between
the animal and its trainer. Such as a magician,
the master dominates the reptile and its
jaw perfectly, so much that he can put his
head on it...
Elephant Theme Show as
for it, as spectacular, is articulated with
three parts. From the capture to the work
of the elephants carrying and unloading
gigantic chunks of wood, the first set shows
the capacities of the animal in the task.
And when it doesn’t work, the big
mammal devotes gladly to tomfooleries in
a pastiche of the Football World Cup. A
team of elephants wearing the colors of
Brazil (Ronaldo), Italy (Del Piero) and
other stars of the round ball lets off stream
in front of the goal of a skilful goal keeper...
The best of the production is a historical
reconstruction of a battle of the former
Siam. On a powerful soundtrack, warriors
of the kingdom, perched on their colossal
mounts, defend with weapons a fortress on
fire from the attack of belligerent Burmese
invaders. The intensity of the fights, the
explosions of the bombs and the size of
the flames that doesn’t frighten the
animals, make the show very credible and
very pleasant. This show really has to be
seen! (/JM)
