| In Bangkok as in the rest
of Thailand finding food is never a problem.
Whatever the place, wherever you are, there's
always a restaurant, a street stall or a mobile
vendor. You just need to know where to go
and what to eat. |

In
return for a few Baht, some restaurants offer
their clients air-conditioned rooms to eat
in. And if by chance there's nothing on the
menu that takes your fancy, you can always
ask for a dish to be made up just for you.

It's lunchtime - let's eat! |

>> Thais (and Asians
in general) have a more instinctive approach
to mealtimes than we do in the West. Their
eating habits don't necessarily revolve around
the rigid office hours and they don't have
to wait until 7pm to have dinner - they eat
when they're hungry. As you go around the
streets of the city, it's very easy to adopt
this attitude as food is on offer everywhere,
24/7 - and it's good!
To avoid this temptation, you could always
find a foreign restaurant to sit yourself
in where the menus are pretty standard, or
worse, in a fast food place - sacrilege!!!
Traditional local food is available in abundance
and at prices to suit everyone's budget. The
only difficulty with the multitude of choices
on offer will be deciding where to stop and
eat.
With restaurants, it's easy to see what's
on offer by looking through the menus, often
in English and with pictures. However for
smaller places you need to rely more on looking
at how busy they are. If there are lots of
people at the peak hours, then it's bound
to be good. Often these cheaper places (around
40-60 Baht for a dish) don't have menus and
no English is spoken. You'll need to look
around at the other tables to see what people
are eating - some are even kind enough to
let you have a taste - if you like it, order
the same thing. Otherwise just go ahead and
explore the culinary delights on offer, but
make sure if you're not a fan of hot and spicy
food that you ask for it "mai phet" (not spicy).
