| From time to time, Thais
also need to escape the stress of the capital,
away from the noise and pollution of the infernal
traffic. As a source of release, they go to
the parks to let off steam. |

>> You don't have
to do much here to break out into a sweat,
in the constant 30°C, simply climbing
the stairs will do it - the beads of sweat
appear quickly. Despite dripping with sweat,
the locals come to work out their stress,
work on their figures and to keep fit.
Trainers, shorts, T-shirts, sweat pants -
they're all kitted out. Alone, with friends
or family, smiling or grimacing, the sports
addicts come every day and invade the parks
of Bangkok. This merry-go-round of activity
starts as soon as the gates open (at 4.30am),
into this natural haven of silence and 'fresh'
air (!?) in the City of Angels. And there
you'll find mingling happily together, walkers,
joggers and a few mountain bikers and roller
bladers. Others join in the fun doing their
gym routines in corners of the park, to the
strains of music and under the guidance of
a gym instructor on his pedestal. You'll also
find the haggard old muscle men lifting their
weights in an attempt to increase their already
bulky physiques.
Law and order is maintained under a not
so watchful eye - but very loud whistle
- of the local police officers. Never fear,
the police are here - so everything must
be fine!! (/LA) |
