 .Temple of Bangkok
This royal Buddhist temple is one of a kind in Thailand. Wat Arun (or Wat Arunatchawararam) is a symbolic feature of the Kingdom. The multicoloured ceramic cladding gives the temple its very distinctive appearance.

.Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn
>> Along with Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Pho, Wat Arun is one of the most famous royal temples in Thailand. Even though its image, official Tourist Authority of Thailand (TAT) logo, decorates the 10 Baht coins, it's not the first temple people rush to visit.

History tells us that its name originates from that of the Hindu God, Aruna (dawn). Situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in the suburb of Thonburi, the Temple of Dawn, of which construction dates back to 17 C. is more impressive for its height (70m high) than its surface area. A tour round the grounds will not take long but can easily be drawn out if you take the time to take in the fine details which make up the wonder of this place. The porcelain (crockery donated by locals) and the thicker pieces of ceramic dotted around the buildings give the whole monument its certain cachet. The Khmer style prangs (towers) shaped like corncobs are totally covered in such, except for a few spaces reserved for the small recesses that shelter the statues or bas-reliefs like this one of the mythological character, Kinnari - half woman, half bird. The demons and gods of the wind will also thrill lovers of mythology.

Furthermore, the constant hive of daily religious activity around the chapel and the bot (the monastery, religious duties, ordinations) attracts the visitors as well as the numerous statues in the inner courtyard of the cloister and the Demon Giants (Sahassateja and Tasakantha) that guard the entrance.
