.The fruits of Nakhon Pathom |
|
|
|
| In February, this small
provincial town comes to life to display and
promote its agricultural products. Along with
the sound of the traditional music, the fruits
reflect the warm Asian welcome. |

>> About 56 km west
of the capital, Nakhon Pathom organises its
annual fruit festival. The festival, in the
style of a local village fête is prudently
held at the foot of the famous Phra Pathom
Chedi (one of the highest Buddhist monuments
in the world - 120m approx). This event attracts
not only the locals, eager to participate
in the event but tourists (though not many)
who are always curious to see what's going
on and of course food-lovers.
As is customary the local restaurateurs get
together the feed the masses gathered in a
covered area with its loud sound system. It's
difficult to know what dish to choose from
the multitude of aromas and steaming cooking
pots. But try and be sensible and don't get
carried away because after this ...there's
the tasting!
You can take part in the tasting for a mere
20 Baht - and what a welcome. The smiling,
friendly hostesses provide you with a plate,
a napkin and the essential toothpick. From
then on you're let loose amongst the many
tables of fruits and the only limit is the
size of your stomach! At the end, it's possible
to purchase any of the fruits that you've
enjoyed. (/LA) |
