.Communication |
|
|
|
| In Thailand and particularly
Bangkok, the need to communicate at any time
in any place is so great you can almost feel
it. To satisfy this insatiable desire, the
Thais make the most of (more than is really
necessary) all the latest technology: mobiles,
texting and especially the web. |
A few examples of service
provider packages:
Fixed usage packages:
CS
Internet - 45 hrs - 400 baht
Ji-net

>> For work, daily
needs and for pleasure - especially for pleasure
- Thais need to communicate. Glued to their
mobile phones which they use at will as much
for phoning as for texting, the inhabitants
of the Land of Smiles are also huge users
of the Internet. Now fully aware and convinced
of the Web's effectiveness, they tap away
on the keyboard and mouse as naturally as
they use their mobiles. The email address,
an absolute 'must have' if you want to be
'in', now goes hand in hand with the phone
number when exchanging details. Standard or
high speed access, at home or in the Internet
cafés, the Internet is everywhere now and
accessible to all.
Thailand's Internet users greatly benefit
from the fierce price war between the various
service providers. The offers are numerous
and the prices for basic access (56k) are
very attractive. It's therefore quite easy
for the regular user to find credible access
at home via the main phone line for a hundred
Baht or so.
If surfing is just occasional and amounts
to just checking emails and the odd search
for a movie, Internet cafés provide a convenient
and inexpensive alternative. Whether in the
capital, out of town or on the islands, there
is always a way to get connected. Of course,
depending on the area or type of connection
(standard or SDSL) the prices can vary but
are still reasonable for visitors at around
30 to 90 Baht per hour. (/LA) |
