>> Khao San Road, with
its ideal location in the historical centre
of Bangkok (on Rattanakosin Island) has become
the place not to be missed by visitors to
the City of Angels. Over the years, this little
street has developed a big reputation. It's
one of the most convivial and reasonably prices
areas for travellers as well as for the city's
own inhabitants.
Backpacker's travelling through Bangkok always
come and make use of this street where the
hotels and guesthouses are famous for being
cheap. The road is pedestrianized (except
for a few taxis and tuk-tuks) and offers a
pleasant bit of tranquillity during the day.
In the evenings, the tempo is somewhat different.
The daytime activities created by the boutiques
selling clothes, jewellery, music (pirated)
etc... at the end of the afternoon leads way
to the youngsters with their Woodstock looks
hanging out in the lively restaurants and
bars. This cosmopolitan mix of eternal activity
doesn't stop the Bangkokians from coming here.
Even Thais who like to go out, come to Khao
San road to enjoy this friendly and enticing
place.
For those who prefer a little more peace and
quiet, the daytime provides a myriad of well-stocked
market stalls that bargain hunters will not
be able to resist. (/LA) |
