Urban
ruins
Even beautiful Bangkok has its bad points.
Everywhere in the capital, buildings of ambitious
stature remain unfinished, blemishes in the
background. The crisis of 1997 certainly left
its mark not just visibly but obtrusively
(potentially dangerous too). The City of Angels
would do well to rid itself of this problem.

Khao
San,
the backpacker's quarter
Well known amongst the backpackers, Khao San
Road doesn't just draw the travellers and
tourists. The trappings of this irresistible
little pedestrian street even attract the
city's own inhabitants.

Lumphini,
an extraordinary garden
The spacious places where you can relax are
few in Bangkok. The research of the best urban
space leaves a few leafy places and rest.
Suan Lumphini won on concrete and managed
to preserve a nice patch of nature in the
capital.

Call
me Krung Thep... !
'Bangkok' is the international name for the
City of Angels. However its true name in Thai
is not so unassuming but just as effective.
It's the longest city name in the world -
try to say in Thai, if you can!
